Even though the average weight of the population in the Western world continues to rise, this seems to have fueled the interest in health and fitness products. In addition to that, these people are having the desire to sculpt their bodies to achieve that magazine-cover look. Consequently gyms, health spas, fitness clubs and equipment manufacturers are all doing very well with what everyone hopes is not just another fashion. Although to be honest, trying to avoid the subject is not easy with amount of advertising that goes on to promote diet fitness. The way we eat and the types of food we consume also play a major role in our overall health and fitness so the two should really be emphasized as a joint effort. Diet and fitness are as essential as exercise itself as they provide the essential nutrition we need to restore worn-out muscles and for healthy growth as a result they should never be taken for granted. What doesn't help the average person is what diet-fitness regime to follow as both seem to make sense; there is the one that says eat foods with high carbohydrate levels and the other which says you need to eat foods with a high fat content which appears to contradict everything we are told about dieting. The first thing you need to know would be the fundamental differences between these two diet approaches because as the name implies, high-carb diets concentrates on taking in carbohydrate-rich foods while high fat diets endorses fat-rich foods. Those followers of eating foods with high carbohydrate content believe these are best owing to the amount of energy that can be stored in the muscles ready for instant release. Whereas, fat is a rich source of calories with two and a half times more than proteins and carbohydrates whilst fat metabolizes in an eighth of the time it does for carbohydrates. So a person can follow a high-carb and low fat fitness diet or the other way around but it is not recommended to follow both at the same time; unless of course if you want to gain body fat. If your aim is to lose body fat then you will need to stick to a diet fitness routine but remember this is not just a short term goal. Research shows that sustainable loss of weight can only be achieved on a diet which suits the individual food preferences, lifestyle and medical profile. Many diets can help you lose weight but to maintain it requires something that will make you feel good about yourself as well as making you feel healthy and that often means eating some of the things you like but in moderation. A person must be careful not to leave out important nutrients plus other substances necessary for healthy body functioning and health organizations are clear about the amounts of nutrients an individual should have in the body. Finding the right diet fitness program that matches your needs and ensures you stay on it are the hardest part of this but if you can manage it, you will have found a way to stay fit and healthy for a very long time.
